The term &#8220;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wazirx.com\/guide\/glossary\/gwei\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gwei<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8221; is derived from &#8220;Gigawei,&#8221; which combines &#8220;Giga,&#8221; denoting a billion, and &#8220;Wei,&#8221; the smallest denomination of ETH.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gwei primarily measures <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wazirx.com\/guide\/glossary\/gas\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gas<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> prices, transaction fees, and smart contract execution costs on the Ethereum network. It&#8217;s the most commonly used unit of Ether for this purpose because it simplifies the pricing of Ethereum transaction fees, which are often tiny fractions of an ETH.
