The movement behind crypto is gaining momentum, and everyone wants to get on this train! This is especially true for Bollywood celebrities and other artists looking to offer something more to their fans. The usual route is to provide some sort of merchandise such as t-shirts and fashion accessories. Now, however, these influencers are looking at new-age routes like using Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)! How deep does this trend go? Which celebrities have taken this step? Let’s find out below.
Bollywood celebs x NFT
Non-fungible tokens are, to put it simply, digital assets that are hosted on the blockchain because of which their digital trail and authenticity can be confirmed. A layman can think of it as pieces of art that exist virtually, but the origin and authenticity can be verified. Let us take a look at which Bollywood celebrities have adopted the NFTs:
Amitabh Bachhan
This top spot in this list just had to belong to the Big B, Mr. Amitabh Bachhan! One of the first actors to adopt NFTs – he has auctioned off certain collectibles, a vintage poster and also a recording of his voice reciting the poem ‘Madhushala’ written by his late father. One can argue that he is also one of the first people in India to pay a significant amount of GST on the sale of these NFTs. These NFTs were hosted on the NFT marketplace beyondlife.com.
Salman Khan
Being an actor with one of the largest fan followings in India, it only makes sense for him to launch his own NFT collections. This launch was such a big hit that it is reported that 1 million ‘Bolly tokens’ were sold within 3 hours of launch. The ‘Bolly tokens’ were issued in partnership with Bollycoin.
Sonu Nigam
This renowned singer decided to release his first English track, ‘Hall of Fame’, via the NFT market.
Rajnikanth
The beloved ‘Thalaiva’ has also decided to take the plunge and launch NFT collectibles based on his hit movie ‘Shivaji the Boss’ released back in 2007. He has partnered with an NFT marketplace named Diginoor.io, which is based in Singapore.
Kamal Haasan
The actor had announced his intention to release his own collection of NFTs back in November 2021. On 18th May 2022, the NFTs of his film ‘Vikram’ was launched at Cannes Film Festival. The NFTs were launched in partnership with Fantico and are also said to include a metaverse experience.
Manish Malhotra
This popular fashion designer had launched his fashion-themed NFTs on the WazirX NFT marketplace. The NFTs were also said to be sold out in record time after their launch.
Ritvix X Nucleya
The popular music artists Ritviz and Nucleya collaborated on an album called ‘Baaraat’ and have used the WazirX NFT marketplace to sell their NFTs based on the theme of their music album.
While the above examples only include Bollywood celebrities, the adoption of NFTs is popular even among cricketers – Sunil Gavaskar, Yuvraj Singh, Rohit Sharma, and Dinesh Karthik, to name a few. The embracing of the NFTs by these big names has helped boost the authenticity of NFT as a digital product. It may pave the way for not just celebrities but even fans to have some sort of authentic memorabilia of their beloved role models.
