Overview
Hive is a platform for developing decentralized applications (dApps), with a focus on content distribution apps, that sprang from a squabble with Steem. The Hive network now has all of the material that was originally deployed on Steem as a result of the fork. Following the Tron Foundation's acquisition of prominent Steem-based platform Steemit Inc., including its STEEM holdings, the former Steem community and the Tron Foundation had a protracted dispute. Hive did not transfer HIVE tokens to Tron-affiliated Steem accounts on purpose, so that its perceived adversary would not have a stake in the new network.

Technology
Hive's consensus algorithm is Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS). The weight of staked funds supporting block producers (referred to as "witnesses" on Hive) and all other consensus-based services is decided in a DPoS algorithm. Stakeholders are given the most weight in DPoS. Of all the blockchain protocols, DPoS consensus is thought to be the most inclusive and least centralised.
Use of Native tokens in the ecosystem: The native coin HIVE is used to earn staking rewards and vote on governance proposals in the DPoS blockchain network.
