Overview
Monero was launched in 2014 with a simple goal: to allow transactions to be conducted discreetly and anonymously. Even though it's a frequent misconception that BTC can hide a person's identity, because blockchains are transparent, it's typically simple to track payments back to their original source. XMR, on the other hand, is meant to hide both senders and recipients using powerful cryptography.
Monero's creators claim that privacy and security are their top concerns, with usability and efficiency coming in second. Its goal is to give security to all users, regardless of their technical skill level.
Overall, the goal of XMR is to allow payments to be made rapidly and cheaply without concern of being censored.

Technology
One of Monero's key goals is to avoid centralization, and the network employs the CryptoNight consensus method, which is based on proof-of-work. Large mining farms cannot become a dominant force as a result of this.
It focuses on ASIC resistance as well. RandomX has been replacing CryptoNote since December 2019, eliminating the requirement for biennial upgrades.
