Nano is a small coin that aims to make secure, almost instantaneous payments with no fees. It tackles some of the key flaws in both traditional financial infrastructure and many modern cryptocurrencies.

It's a peer-to-peer platform that employs a unique block-lattice data format to let users quickly transfer value to one another without the necessity of centralized intermediaries.

Unlike other platforms that rely on the combined proof-of-work of a large mining network to reach consensus, nano employs an Open Representative Voting (ORV) mechanism, in which account holders vote for a representative who then works to safely confirm blocks of transactions.

Nano mixes distributed ledger technology with the DAG algorithm (directed acrylic graph). Each Nano account has its own blockchain, called as a "account-chain," that holds a record of transactions and balance history, as opposed to a blockchain with a central chain.
Nano employs Open Representative Voting (ORV), a distributed Proof of Stake (dPOS) method that allows volunteers to assist secure the network by becoming representatives. Accounts designate a representative by modifying their account chain in this system, giving users more flexibility over who validates transactions.
