Theta Network

Summary

Theta is a user-powered decentralized video delivery network that runs on its own blockchain (Theta Network).
-It was co-founded by Mitch Liu and Jieyi Long in 2018
-It is secured by the multi-level Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT) consensus method.

Overview

In a global, peer-to-peer mesh network, Theta Network attempts to offer a more efficient way to transport content. Individual users are encouraged to offer their idle computer and bandwidth resources as caching or relay nodes for video broadcasts using tokens on the Theta blockchain. This concept attempts to improve stream delivery quality and alleviate the "last-mile" delivery problem, which is a major bottleneck in traditional content delivery pipelines, particularly for high-resolution, high-bitrate 4k, 8k, and next-generation streams.
The bulk of users will pull streams from peering caching nodes with adequate network density, allowing video platforms to dramatically reduce content delivery network ("CDN") expenditures. The Theta Network intends to empower video platforms to deepen viewer engagement, produce incremental income, and differentiate their content and viewing experience from their competitors by adding tokens as an end-user incentive mechanism.

Technology

Theta has a financial incentive mechanism to encourage user participation in governance activities, and its network is thereby protected by its own users.
To balance security and high transaction throughput, the network uses proof-of-stake (PoS) and a multi-level Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT) consensus method.
Theta ensures that no single entity holds the majority of THETA tokens staked at any given time with the activation of Guardian nodes in June 2019.
Use of native tokens in the ecosystem:
Theta network takes a two-token model approach with THETA and TFUEL:
THETA is the Theta protocol's governance token, and it may be used to stake as a Validator or Guardian node, produce blocks, and participate in protocol governance.
TFUEL is the Theta protocol's operational token, which users utilize to execute transactions (for example, for a relay node to supply the third party with a video stream, or to deploy/engage with smart contracts). Every video stream that nodes rebroadcast to other users on the network earns them TFUEL.
