Thanks to the famed painter’s recent entry into the metaverse, millions of art aficionados may soon be able to experience the works of Salvador Dali without ever leaving their homes.
A digital art show of Spanish plastic artist Salvador Dal will open in Barcelona, Spain on September 20. The exhibition, dubbed “DAL CIBERNTIC” or “Cyber Dali for the English-speaking public,” will showcase more than 200 of the artist’s works through the metaverse.
Visitors will be able to enjoy an immersive experience using virtual reality glasses, entering a metaverse where they will be able to create their own avatars and wander freely inside the artworks, according to the Spanish media outlet El Periodico
The organizers anticipate being able to deploy the project in more than 20 locations over the course of a four-year international tour, according to the organizers.
Exhibition Hub, a firm in charge of organizing, producing, and distributing significant exhibitions across the world, and Layers of Reality, an audiovisual production company specializing in creating immersive material, collaborated on the project.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for art lovers, as they will be able to walk through Dali’s universe’s four areas, which include the sea, the sky, the vacuum, and the desert, immersing themselves for 15 minutes in his most spectacular works.
Tickets for this one-month-long event are already on sale. After the initial exhibition closes in October, the international tour will kick off in London.
Although it is currently uncertain whose metaverse will host this initiative, it is without a doubt the first to “digitalize” the works of one of the world’s most important artists. We’ve already reached the point when art and the metaverse collide. Perhaps, in the future, the world’s top museums will be housed on the blockchain, democratizing access to world-class art to a wider audience.
