Key Highlights:
- Walmart has introduced online game worlds in Roblox, a renowned Web2-gaming platform.
- The company has already applied for trademarks relating to bitcoin and the metaverse.
Through the introduction of two new experiences on the gaming platform Roblox, retail behemoth Walmart (WMT) is enabling users to experience the metaverse. The action follows Walmart’s filing of seven trademark applications at the end of December, which revealed its intentions to produce and market virtual items in the metaverse.
A music festival with famous singers, a ton of different games, and a store of virtual goods, or “verch,” that mirrors what customers might find in Walmart’s physical stores and on its website are all part of the retail giant’s first excursion into the virtual world.
What are the new experiences about?
According to a press statement on Monday, Walmart has developed two experiences, one dubbed Walmart Land and the other Walmart’s Universe of Play. A virtual store will be included in Walmart Land, and Universe of Play offers a variety of toy worlds and games.
With “Stranger Things” actor Noah Schnapp, “Walmart Land” will provide a Netflix trivia experience, a virtual changing room, and a music festival with well-known performers. Additionally, it will market “verch” for avatars that correspond to actual goods sold in Walmart stores.
The second attraction, Walmart’s Universe of Play, will provide interactive games with figures from some of its best-selling holiday toy lines, including Paw Patrol and L.O.L. Surprise!
Walmart is finally experimenting with new strategies for drawing customers, particularly in light of the disruption it experienced during the pandemic. Since then, the company has held live streaming events that may be purchased on TikTok, Twitter, and Youtube. Additionally, the store has made an augmented reality application available on Pinterest so that buyers may visualize how furniture or other decors would look in their homes.
