Later this month, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) will launch its new non-fungible tokens (NFTs) platform. According to a press release issued by the company on Friday, FIFA+ Collect will launch with various initial token collections and reveal information about subsequent exclusive and limited-edition collections.
The digital collectibles will include classic artwork and images from the FIFA World Cup and FIFA Women’s World Cup competitions and will depict notable moments from football games. FIFA Chief Business Officer Romy Gai said, “This exciting announcement makes FIFA memorabilia available to any football fan, democratizing the possibility to own a part of the FIFA World Cup.”
Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, said in the announcement: “We are delighted to announce this partnership with Algorand. The collaboration clearly indicates FIFA’s commitment to continually seeking innovative channels for sustainable revenue growth for further reinvestment into football, ensuring transparency to our stakeholders and worldwide football fans – a key element of our Vision to make football truly global. I look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with Algorand.”
On FIFA+, the federation’s digital platform where users can access live soccer matches from around the globe, interactive games, news, tournament details, and other original content, FIFA+ Collect will be accessible. With more to come, FIFA+ Collect will initially be available on the web and mobile devices in three languages: English, French, and Spanish. As a result of the relationship with Algorand, which was first announced earlier this year, FIFA’s NFT platform has been developed.
The organization’s acting CEO, W. Sean Ford, remarked, “FIFA’s commitment to bridge to Web3 facilitated by Algorand is a credit to their inventive spirit and ambition to directly and seamlessly communicate with football fans.” In May, FIFA and the blockchain technology business agreed on a sponsorship and technical collaboration pact ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
