First Female UFC Fighter Luana Pinheiro to be Paid in Bitcoin

UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou’s announcement that he will get half of his UFC 270 paycheck in bitcoin has encouraged other UFC competitors to invest in cryptocurrencies.

Additionally, UFC entered into a partnership with the cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com, and as part of that partnership, UFC Fight Night bonuses are now paid in bitcoin.

Key Highlights:

  • Through a collaboration with Bitwage, Luana Pinheiro will become the first female UFC fighter to receive payment in bitcoin.
  • Pinheiro follows in the footsteps of her partner Matheus Nicolau, who adopted a Bitcoin Standard through Bitwage in March of last year.
  • Anyone around the globe may use Bitwage, a payroll service provider, to change their income into bitcoin without getting permission from their employer.

Luana Pinheiro, a strawweight with an 18-2 record, will be the first female UFC competitor to receive money in bitcoin, according to a July 27 announcement by cryptocurrency payments service provider Bitwage (BTC).

Bitwage provides payroll services. Unlike other payroll providers, Bitwage focuses on paying employees in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and other virtual currencies rather than traditional forms of payment.

Luana’s Say on Bitcoin

Luana Pinheiro commented that the market’s volatility would soon end; thus, she is not concerned about Bitcoin’s declining price or the market’s downward trajectory.

Luana supported her initiative of adopting Bitcoin Payments and stated, “Think about it: it takes an average of 10–15 years for an individual to obtain a black belt in Brazil in Jiu Jitsu, so my time preference here is just as long, if not longer. Everything else is just noise to me and the lower the price, the more Bitcoin I can secure for the future.”
