Gucci, an Italian premium high-end fashion brand, is now accepting ApeCoin for in-person purchases made in American stores. Gucci has recently added ApeCoin to the list of cryptocurrencies it accepts for purchasing its products at a few U.S. shops.
In addition, customers can now use ApeCoin to pay for Gucci merchandise with BitPay. According to Gucci’s tweet on Tuesday, this is another step in the House’s exploration into Web3.
Gucci confirmed in May that it would start taking popular currencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, and Litecoin, at certain locations in an interview with Vogue Business. Through BitPay‘s service, payments are made by scanning a QR code with a digital wallet.
Key Highlights:
- The premium fashion house Gucci will accept ApeCoin (APE) in a few U.S. outlets.
- The company has worked on NFT and metaverse game projects and takes other popular cryptocurrencies.
- The revelation was released a few days after Tiffany & Co., another luxury retailer, revealed it would release a collection of 250 NFTs redeemable for uniquely designed jewelry with a CryptoPunks theme.
This year, the luxury brand also engaged in additional Web3-related activities. Gucci and vinyl toy manufacturer Superplastic teamed up to produce collaborative NFTs in January. Subsequently, Gucci unveiled a Gucci Vault site that would be included in the Ethereum metaverse game, The Sandbox.
The company has also worked on online shows with the NFT art portal super rare. Following Tiffany & Co.’s statement on Sunday that it will release a line of handcrafted pendants based on CryptoPunks, another famous NFT line owned by Yuga Labs, comes the Gucci news.
