Blockchain-based Metaverse and Web3 platforms have established the Open Metaverse Alliance for Web3 (OMA3) to address the industry’s interoperability issues. According to the Alliance, its four guiding principles are inclusivity, decentralization, and democracy.
A joint company was established by Animoca Brands, Alien Worlds, SAND (The Sandbox), Space, Dapper Labs, Upland, and Voxels. According to a recent official announcement, the interoperability issues would be resolved by concentrating on facilitation and suggested cooperation standards among various Web3 stakeholders.
OMA3 will be created as a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) to build a governance structure that is “transparent and user-centric.” It will focus its work on several metaverse-related topics, including standards for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and protocols for transferable identity, gateways between virtual worlds, mapping, and indexing.
The members of the Alliance aim to join the recently revealed Metaverse Standards Forum, a group of Web3 businesses that will coordinate requirements and support for current standards and create standards pertinent to the Metaverse.
Co-founder of SAND Sebastian Borget has spoken about how they anticipate the OMA3 platform’s virtual avatars to reflect the actual characteristics of the users.
He also created an example digital avatar to demonstrate the problems OMA3 would address:
“We want your Avatar can be more than just virtual representation, and also carries your reputation as anyone can see on-chain which NFTs you hold, earned, created, or bought, the full history of transactions, and as well hopefully the progression/actions you have contributed to throughout time.”
