Key Highlights:

  • The beta testing of Starbucks’ web3 loyalty program and NFT community has begun.
  • The software, known as Starbucks Odyssey, offers NFTs with a coffee theme that may be applied to actual situations.
  • The Polygon blockchain is the foundation for the new program.

The first batch of American beta testers for Starbucks Odyssey, its blockchain-based loyalty program and NFT community, received access to it today. The new project is actually an expansion of Starbucks’ current loyalty program, Starbucks Rewards, and uses web3 technology, such as the polygon blockchain and NFTs. It also contains NFTs with a coffee theme that relates to actual experiences.

More about the loyalty program

A “small group of waitlist members,” including staff members and customers, were given access to the Web3 extension of the popular coffee shop chain’s Starbucks Rewards program. This allowed users to participate in interactive “Journeys” and collect “Journey Stamps” in the form of Polygon-based NFTs. Users also receive “Odyssey Points” that grant access to future advantages and experiences like virtual seminars on crafting espresso martinis, special events, and excursions to Starbucks roasteries and coffee farms.

What does Starbucks have to say?

“Starbucks Odyssey is an experience, surrounded by a digital community, where members can come together, interact, and share their love of coffee,” the company said in a statement. “Starbucks is using meaningful elements of Web3 technology to reward members in innovative ways.”

According to the business, others in the queue will start receiving invitations monthly in January. In addition, the Starbucks Odyssey market offered by Nifty Gateway, where users can purchase and sell their digital collectible Stamps, will also be accessible to members who were invited to the beta launch. According to Starbucks, Odyssey members don’t need to use bitcoin or a crypto wallet to buy Stamps; they can do so straight with a credit card.
