Namaste tribe! WazirX supports the upcoming ETH Constantinople hard fork scheduled for around 16th January 2019.
What does it mean for me?
The Constantinople update will lay the groundwork for Ethereum 2.0’s goal of moving to proof-of-stake (POS). Once activated, the hard fork will result into a new blockchain containing major upgrades which involve performance improvement of Ethereum, delaying the mining difficulty bomb, reduction of mining rewards, and optimising the way gas is consumed.
The Constantinople node will activate on the processing of block 7,080,000 which could happen around 16th January. This would be a non-contentious fork, i.e., the community is likely to adopt the upgrade, hence, it might not result in 2 different cryptocurrencies.
However, in case this turns out to be a contentious fork, don’t worry, WazirX will support the new blockchain.
Schedule:
For security, we’ll pause the deposits and withdrawals of all ERC20 tokens (including Ether) tentatively from 14th January until the snapshot is completed. In a nutshell:
- Hard Fork Block Height: 7,080,000
- When: 14th January 2019–17th January 2019
What do I need to do?
Nothing! If you’re holding ETH or ERC20 tokens on WazirX, you don’t need to do anything at all. We’ll handle all technical requirements to ensure a smooth transition for you. We’ll also make an announcement after the fork is complete, and when deposits and withdrawals resume.
