Band Protocol is a cross-chain data oracle platform that can take real-world data and feed it to on-chain apps, as well as connect APIs to smart contracts to make information flow between on-chain and off-chain data sources more accessible.
Band Protocol is meant to be faster and more efficient than competing oracle solutions and compatible with the majority of blockchain and smart contract development frameworks, ensuring that trustworthy data can be supplied to and from many blockchains.
The Band Protocol allows anyone to create an oracle without requiring permission, allowing anyone to begin serving data requests immediately. It also allows developers to use data from Band Protocol oracles with just a few lines of code by calling on a specified interface, making smart contract integration relatively straightforward.

Band Protocol was first released as an ERC-20 project on the Ethereum blockchain in September 2019, however, with the release of Band Protocol 2.0 in June 2020, it was moved to the Cosmos network.
The Cosmos SDK was used to create the new protocol based on BandChain.
BandChain is protected against attacks with a Byzantine fault Tolerance (BFT) consensus process based on the Cosmos SDK. This is used in conjunction with a delegated proof of stake (dPOS) configuration, which protects the network's oracles while allowing BAND holders to gain staking rewards by delegating their stake to nodes.
Use of Native tokens in the ecosystem: BAND is BandChain's native token, and it's used to pay for transfer/data request fees and to stake to ensure accountability and secure data curation from a trusted global pool of validators.
