Decred is a hybrid Consensus algorithm driven cryptocurrency that has a strong focus on community input, open governance, and sustainable funding for development.
It utilizes its hybrid consensus and on-chain governance systems to ensure that whales or dolphins of the market cannot disturb the flow of transactions or make changes to Decred without the input of the community. The project is self-funded to develop from a decentralized treasury.
Decred also created a dedicated voting platform called Politeia, which allows users to participate in votes, submit proposals and start discussions.

Decred is a highly efficient and unique project as it invests its efforts on the blockchain technology’s decentralized nature to prevent a monopoly whale control in the project itself.
The protocol is a distributed, time-stamped ledger of unspent transaction output (UTXO) transfers stored in an append-only chain of dynamic-sized data blocks. A network of mining and economic nodes maintains this blockchain by validating, propagating, and competing to include pending transactions (mempool) in new blocks
One of the main goals of the Decred protocol is to ensure that all DCR holders have the same amount of decision-making power and that large institutions cannot rig the voting mechanism to favor themselves
Decred introduced a ticket-holder voting, Decred ensures that people who have enough DCR will have the opportunity to participate in votes regarding the company/token’s governance and operations.
Decred is employing a hybrid consensus mechanism, which combines both the proof-of-work (PoW) and proof-of-stake model (PoS)which ensures protection against monopoly governance.
