Bitcoin climbed to a one-week high near $83,500 on October 21, 2026, up from around $81,000, as reports of a Tesla-SpaceX merger put Elon Musk’s corporate Bitcoin holdings back in focus. A rebound in Asian tech stocks also lifted sentiment, so the merger’s exact role in the rally is unclear.
Merger Talks Are Early
On SpaceX’s Q3 earnings call on October 20, Musk said both companies had formed independent board committees to evaluate a merger after shareholder requests. He backed the idea but said a deal was far from certain, and that he would stay out of committee discussions because of conflicts of interest. A combined company could be valued at around $3.5 trillion.
30,221 BTC on One Balance Sheet
SpaceX holds 18,712 BTC and Tesla holds 11,509 BTC. At October 21 prices, that is about $2.52 billion, or roughly 0.14% of Bitcoin’s 21 million supply. A merged entity would rank around sixth among public corporate holders, alongside Strategy, Metaplanet, Twenty One Capital, and MARA Holdings.
The key point is that a merger would move existing coins onto one balance sheet and would not create fresh demand. What matters for the market is whether the combined company holds, adds, or sells BTC.
