Honeypot

A network-attached system known as a “honeypot” is put up as a ruse to entice online attackers and to detect, block, and research efforts to hack into information systems without authorization.
A honeypot’s purpose is to pose as a prospective target for attackers on the internet (often a server or other high-value asset), collect data, and alert defenders to any unauthorized user attempts to access the honeypot.
