Segregated Witness (SegWit)

Segregated Witness (SegWit) is a term used to describe a modification to the way Bitcoin handles transactions in which the witness data was taken out of the block’s input field. Segregated Witness’s stated goal is to avoid unintentional Bitcoin transaction malleability and enable the storage of more transactions per block.

The blockchain size constraint issue that slowed down Bitcoin transaction performance was another issue that SegWit was designed to address.
